Title: First Bloom

Description: The flower is painted in shades of deep red, purple and pink. The sky outside the window is lavender. The window sill is gold and orange. There is another plant on the window sill that is also gold and orange. The bloom seems to glow from a reflection off glass of a flourescent light. The title of the painting and the signature of the artist is in the lower right corner.
A final acrylic varnish is applied to protect the surface. The painting on canvas is wrapped around 3/4" wooden stretchers and stapled in the back. The sides are painted with the same colors, continuing the scene from the front. The back is wired and ready to hang on the wall without a frame. It would fit within a frame also, if that is preferred.

Artist's Comment: "First Bloom" is a painting of the first bloom from a Christmas Cactus sitting on my kitchen window sill. The window is right above the sink in the kitchen. I had planted the cactus from a starter leaf that had fallen off of another Christmas Cactus. The tiny plant grew roots in a small glass. I put it in soil and it continued to thrive. Every night when I washed the dishes after supper, I enjoyed it's presence. Finally after several years, the baby plant presented it's first flower. I had to take a close up of it and eventually did a painting. I still enjoy this plant when I wash the dishes.
