Commission Process:
Satisfaction in your purchase is guaranteed. After the payment and the photo are received, the artist will email a suggested digital composition of the portrait. After the composition is approved, the artist will begin the portrait, which generally takes about two weeks. Upon completion, an email will be sent with an attached digital image of the finished portrait to view before shipment. If you are not totally pleased after receiving the portrait, return the pastel within 7 days and your money will be refunded for the price of the art work. Please email the artist if there are any questions.
Ordering Portraits:
Your order can be placed online and payment made through PayPal or you
can print a Pastel Portrait Order Form
using the print menu from your browser. Fill it out and send it through
the mail with your photo and a personal check, money order, or cashier
check. For personal checks, please allow several days for the check
to clear. The photo can be sent through the mail or a digital picture
can be emailed to the artist.
Photo Selection for Portraits:
The photo should be your own and not from a professional photographer who owns the copyright. It should be a clear sharp representation, and minimally 640 pixels wide if it is digital. Ideally, the best shot is taken outside without the use of a flash, which can wash out and flatten the figure. A candid picture is great and if the photo is of several people or pets, the artist can focus the portrait on a particular individual. While the artist cannot make major changes such as removing 40 pounds, changing the clothing, or changing the body posture; minor compositional changes are possible. Please email the artist if there is any question. The background does not matter since it is simplified to complement the individual in the portrait.
Paper for Pastel Portraits:
Tinted paper is used as the background for the pastels. The color is
generally a medium shade of the colors in the shadows of the photo.
At times the color may be a complimentary color of a primary color in
the focal point; it depends on the composition. Direct sunlight should
be avoided. It is recommended for all art work on paper to use UV barrier
glass in your frame if possible. All pastels are lightly sprayed with
a fixative. They should be separated from the glass with a mat or spacers
to prevent sticking and minimize the effects of moisture. Usually, the
artist applies the pastel to Canson Mi-Teintes which are 66% rag content,
acid-free, fade resistant, and a heavy 98 lb. weight.
